Optical Storage Media (for example: CD's, DVD's) store data optically using Laser Beams, whereas with Magnetic Media (for example: Floppy Discs) the data (consisting of 1's and 0's) is stored Magnetically. The data (0's and 1's) is represented using different magnetic alignments.

Some storage systems combine magnetic and optical technology. Others represent data using electrons.

The most common types of Optical Disc Systems availible are CD's and DVD's.
Floppy Disks are the most widespread form of Magnetic Media.
