The differences between LAN, a WAN, and a PAN, and between an intranet, an extranet, and a VPN are as follows:

LAN is a local area network covers a small geographical area such as your home, office building our school.

WAN is a wide area network hence it covers a larger geographical area. It consists of two our more LANS which could be relatively close to one another or far apart.

PAN is a personal area network which connects personal devices for one individual for example portable PC, cell phone and portable printer.

Intranet is a private network set up by a private orgainisation for use by its employees i.e a companys LAN.
